The Bow Group has recently concluded that the UK’s targets of 34% renewable electricity by 2020 cannot be met unless the energy from intermittent, renewable sources is harnessed, stored and used more effectively as a carbon free fuel for industry, transport and households. It advocates the wider use of hydrogen as a medium to enable the UK to utilise its vast but intermittent renewable energy resources with greater ambition, broader scope and increased reliance.
